An interesting time-shifting mechanic and fun-to-shoot weapons can't make up for the rest of TimeShift's run-of-the-mill first-person shooter gameplay...
The level I played took place in a metropolitan city ravage by an ongoing war between Krone (the main antagonist in the game) army forces and a bunch of rebels hostile towards Krone rule. It doesn’t take a Neurosurgeon to realize that this is a good-no, an amazing-looking game. The character models look much better than the early X-Box version of the game, the blood and gore effects look as amazing as-dare I say it?- Gears of Wars (trust me, this is a rarely said remark), and the game runs smoothly even when you unleash your onslaught of time controlling powers. Speaking of which, I would like to say that the time controlling powers work like a charm. A simple button press combination can cause you to slow down, pause, or fast forward time found in the Prince of Persia and Blinx the Cat series. There’s even advance puzzles that require you to use your time controlling powers, which are more fun than the physics induced puzzles found in Half Life 2. These puzzles range found crossing electric water to pausing time to cross a see-saw surround by, yet more, electric water. The firefights in the demo were vicious since cover was limited because of the game’s destructible environments and will have you constantly on your toes.
